i'm probably the biggest nerd ever. i have glasses like these and they most definitely are prescription. oh and if i could carry a filo-fax around with me, i probably would.

i guess i can sometimes look cool ? :) and if i do, this is exactly what i will wear. comfy, casual + that scarf is just delicious.

paper in hand... yes please. Even though i'm living in the big NY, my heart longs for greenery + the water. The city landscape in the background and the water in forefront, such juxtapositions, but SO me

i'm always rushing from point A to point B... coffee + books. A daily necessity.

as soon as i saw this editorial from elle, i felt like it was a story of my life. only b/c i sometimes consider myself a loner, and i felt this vibe oozing through the pictures... it is kind of hard to explain... but as much as i LOVE people, to my hearts core and back, i also possess this little loner inside, and am ok with that. As much as i get rejuvenated through my friends, family + new relational happenings, i get just as full from spending time on my own... reading, listening to music, running, walking the city streets, spending moments in solitude. i've always been this way, and value the people in my life as the most precious things on this planet. So when i am able to spend those moment with them i truly soak it all in.

THANKFUL.

i feel blessed that i even get to have two thanksgiving celebrations - i am Canadian, but am living in nyc for the moment.

But it's not just these holidays that i count my blessings... i am thankful for these every. single. day. SO much to rejoice! have a glorious day.

things i a thankful for + love:

-GOD. FAMILY. FRIENDS. hands down - without these i wouldn't be here.

-having a body that is able to run, jump, yoga it up, surf, skate, dance...

-laughing so hard my tummy hurts

-spending countless hours at small local coffee shops w/ friends & good books

-smiles/smiling/the sounds of smiles (you know you can tell when someone smiles over the phone!)

-MUSIC !!! it makes my heart sing, and just makes every day that much better

-giving for no reason- why should their be one?

-flannel shirts/converse/vanilla candles/mens watches/oversized grey hoodies/worn in t-shirts/sentimental jewelry

-traveling to an unknown destination... hello spontaneity

-not working, but living your passion. THAT should be your job

-simple gestures // sweet, stolen kisses/ long, strong hugs/ cuddles/ handing holding ( one day ;) )

-making a difference

-road trips. woot woot.

-to have lived in Africa--- my heart is forever changed and i think about those children & beauty everyday

-sitting by a camp fire under the stars

-fresh/white bedding

- the sound of an acoustic guitar

-having access to an abundance of healthy & fresh veggies + fruit! Natures food just makes me so happy + keeps me glowing

-receiving mail! old school snail mail

-sleeping in + 5 am sunrises

-reallllly good tea + coffee. I am just so happy w/ a mugful of coffee + reading material + music

-the beach *le sigh* i miss it, and must move back...

-TRAVEL. my heart yearns to see God's great wonders

-witnessing family + friends successes

-having the ability to be passionate + dream. i am a true believer that nothing is impossible... never stop dreaming guys.

AH! so much to be thankful for.

in the end. it's simply about having less, but loving the things you have MORE.

my dog i had to leave behind upon my departure from Cape Town, South Africa where i resided for 4 years.

to say it broke my heart to leave this beautiful face is a complete understatement. A dog becomes like a human to its owner, and i had streams of tears dribbling down my face as i drove down the driveway to the airport.

as fall falls upon us, and the temperatures drop below zero, i am faced with the lonely nights of tea + cuddles from my giant blanket, longing for the warm snuggle of Mr. Romeo, my main man!

seriously on fire. temperatures here are threw the roof, and for me this means. get my butt out there and into gear.

pick up a skateboard/ bike / basketball/ frisbee/ yoga mat / surfboard/ hoola-hoop whatever your mode of physical activity and SWEAT... yes,hardcore sweat.

My inner tomboy relishes in all it's summer glory. I can't wait to try new sports, lace up my new nike's and just groove and use this glorious city as my playground. From yoga in central park, to skate parks in the east village, to learning how to surf at rockaway beach...

hi guys!

man i've been mia. but it's been good. i think its good just to disconnect for some time. to just be - not worry about this other world, and just live. i had a terrible flu, was studying heaps, and just carrying on with my normal day w/ coffee breaks + meets up here and there! i also have not shopped in a million years... i have 2 suitcases here full of clothes and really only wear a rotation of items + 3 boxes in Canada coming my way...and i don't miss it!

BUT i do have a hankering for a good- solid-vintage-t. That will be my new summer mission- find the softest//coolest//old rocker or high school sports t in the city- the one you can in vision the star of the track team wearing on his winning sprint, drenched in victory sweat or the rocker jamming out to his emo tunes in the basement. i love a good story. i guess we are all just trying to live + tell a story. and i want a great story- so it's time to create it!

i am finally on spring breakkkkkkkkk.

heading uptown for the week to house--sit, but will definitely relish in sleep-ins ( which for me are like 830-9 max) - long/delightful morning coffees - much needed skype dates w/ the fam- and just going with the flow + soaking up this amazing city...

still can't believe all the vintage stores in my hood- its actually overwhelming...might make it my mission to devote some serious time. especially since buffalo exchange is just around the corner from me!

wow.

i've been here for almost 2 months. i still can't believe it...

i actually think i am hitting that two month mark of - what did i just do ?

+ an overwhelming feeling of trying to find my way in such a large and anonymous city.

i needed to clear my head so i headed straight for the water. was thinking of central park, but i needed a horizon, i needed the cool waters breeze across my body. enter the 2 or 3 downtown.

i literally high-tailed it past all of the NJ - BROOKLYN commuters by water taxi ( all the men in suits probably thought i was crazy with my heels and camera) and was the only one, on the ledge of the pier, just soaking in the the natural beauty of it all. not worrying about anything but just being.

i think living in the concrete jungle, i sometimes forget what is around me, especially this natural beauty.

ha ha, oh my - now i am just spilling my heart ! sorry guys. just wanted to share a bit of what i've been thinking about. i am so passionate and truly just want to make my mark. i am determined and will just put my head to the ground, but never lose sight of who and what i want.

* on a complete side note: just a little peek into a weekday bag load. i literally just throw everything into my big black leather zara bag. Mostly books but definitely necessities such as sunnies, spf, paw paw balm, and concealer. my right arm is growing some serious muscle !

i was going to do a bag post - but with the monsoon-like weather hitting nyc, and having been inspired by this editorial, i will save that for another rainy day ( its supposed to stay like this until tuesday...!)

being stuck in said-monsoon all day, had me literally running from subway exit to my destination, and at one point i had to sneak into f21 because i almost flew over from the rain and wind. scary.

having just seen this editorial, and witnessing all of the bikinis and beach wear coming in for spring break/summer REALLY has me craving a beach. big time.

i've also been manifesting that i want to travel. for my career and life in general.

traveling is such an amazing gift, and to be able to see and experience diverse cultures and be inspired by new and exciting cities is something that an education simply can't provide you with.

so i will make it happen. i don't know how or what i want to do, but i do know that anything is possible.

but living on a student budget and still being in school i won't be visiting any exotic places or beaches anytime soon... but THIS summer i will bus it to the hamptons or maybe even the jersey shore!

AND will pile on chunky gold jewels, slick my hair back, and coat my lips in subtle coral/orange lipstick. oh and bottles of spf.

yay for the weekend.

but with rain fore casted for 4 days straight in the apple. i won't be doing much exploring except for clutching my umbrella and running from a to b.

but with the added chill, this isabel marant vest would be a life savior ! how incredible.

i remember when i was little always leaving the chocolate behind...

but with spring break only 2 weeks away... the exams and papers have started to amass, so instead of ice cream licking in the park and short skirts. i will be to and from the library and bookshop.

enjoyed the most g l o r i o u s day out at sea with @novastyle . man i love that girl .

we skipped through the financial district in the sun. went for sushi in the district, then hopped a nyc water taxi to one of my favorite places on earth : ikea. it just makes me happy. Bought most of my furniture for my first nyc box of a room ! ! ! But hey, all i need is a bed, a dresser and a mini desk to fit my computer, cup of tea, new lamp and endless dreams...

with the sun shining i knew i had to throw on some floral. it just felt right.

total casual day.

the streets of new york are an absolute mess.

wet snow flakes the size of my head + dirty streets = disaster.

I was the only female not wearing a pair of Hunter rubber boots. Is it a unwritten code here ?

What i do need though: is a Burberry Prorsum (fw2010 was amazing) sherling jacket. Now that beauty will make me wish for cold + snow 365 days a year. I am in love, and will continue to lust after it.

trudged my way to an 8 am class / followed by art history / and heaps of pukka harmonise tea to keep me warm.

Whilst winter makes its last roar, i am starting to delve into lighter palettes. major cravings include blush/ nude and grey, especially blush though. Expect to see lots of blush!!!

summer sleep wear making its way back into my life. man undies ! oh and white bedding is a must.

if i could, i would grab my sister and we would back pack through south america - how amazing ? and look like this : )

must must must practice and learn how to take photos with my camera (G11) i know its nothing like a rebel, but it's definitely overwhelming.

a pair of tan oxfords. i will pair them with aforementioned white dress!

pretty lingerie with loose tanks . just a peek of a little lace... subtle but sexy.

this stuff is genius! put it on the fridge. spritz it on in the morning...and you will glow all day. in the summer all i wear is this . a little bit of MAC face + body and sunscreen. thats it.

now with things heating up. cereal for breakfast . ( fav: peanut butter puffins + kashi heart 2 heart warm cinnamon )

nothing but red/orangey lips for a night out. no mascara . no blush. just lipstick!

i want everything in zara. now ! spring/summer collection is a m a z i n g.

cafe ost cafe. this place is literally right across the street from my new apt starting march 1st. i seriously cant wait to be one of those regulars, where they get to know your name + drink...

yummy vegan summer salads. avo on everything please !

i will switch between red + neutrals for my nails. 7 dollar east village manicures right outside my doorstep ! i think i will become a addict.

these jeans. although i don't think i can pull them off... for some reason i'm in love.

braids a plenty. i think they will be the perfect spring accessory. sleep in one and wake up with gorgeous, natural wave.

lucite. will check out urban outfitters to see if i can get a cheap pair of sunnies . but how amazing would these prada's be.

finally. my 2 besties/ aka other sisters surprised me and are coming to visit end of may. perfect end to spring 2010 and the best start to summer in the big apple. so so so excited... i think an all night slumber party at their hotel is in order. because what is life without family & friends ! most important piece to any puzzle.

the cfda health initiative.

the whole evening was about "resizing the sample size" and with fashion week it raised quite the stir.

amazing highlights :

- seeing ms. anna wintour in all her -perfect- hair glory! honestly not a hair out of place. i was in awe.

- witnessing dvf's graceful & elegant beauty. she is the definition of a

w-o-m- a - n.

- being surround by all the hip - voguette's - including Hamish Bowles and Meredith-Melling- burke. i felt like a nerd.

- sitting next to model, Ali stephens and her sis. they are gorgeousssss and so down to earth !!!

- saying hi to coco rocha !

- Doutzen is a GODDESS.

- zac posen is so outspoken and firey ! he was on the panel and definitely voiced his opinion.

- marcus wainright from rag & bone is super cute !

- so many hip and stylish woman and men i did not know what to do with myself. i definitely felt like a frump.

to sum up the evenings discussions in a few words : models are WAY too young & casting directors, designers, and the fashion community as a collective have to take action now, many of them actually want to enforce an age limit of 18... but will it ever happen ? fashion week and the industry as a whole is greatly rooted in tradition. Therefore change is hard. . . as in any area of life and society. but interesting times are ahead . . . and i definitely think times are changing . . . i already notice a difference on the catwalks of yesterdays shows - what do you guys think ?

with fashion week just around the corner you can feel the buzz. the tens are up - people are sleep deprived - models are in abundance - and people are flooding into the city.

my first week of classes has been hectic, but so AMAZING at the same time.

macroeco, and art history not so much, but i'm remaining positive about those two.

but my art in new york class is amaze, we get to meet at a new gallery and museum every.class. hello moma and the met. the whitney and guggenheim.

and my fashion industry course has homework of keeping up to date on style.com // find trends in the shows// and read the nytimes style section.

so sorry i've not been able to update more often & with my attire - days are crazzzy and i'm without a photographer now ;) need to find a way to take pictures outside... i promise to resolve this problem asap.

vancouver 2010 !

my home and nation land.

is anyone else excited about the olympics ? or am i a crazzzzy gal.

i'm not normally a super fan, actually i don't follow sports at all, but since its on my home turf, and in one of my favorite cities in the world, i am captivated and excited about all the hot athletes showcasing their amazing talent.

it is such a beautiful, and unifying event, and apart from all the wicked events (!!!) it brings such diverse nations together, to celebrate life, health and prosperity.

thats what puts a smile on my face.

with everything that has been going on in the world, this global event will warm our hearts and allow us a little bit of escapism, if only for a moment.

i know i'll be wearing my official olympic hoodie (see above) out and about in ny !!!

each corner leaves you with that slight flutter of excitement, as you truly never know what's on the other side !

hello big apple !

so these past few days have been an absolute whirlwind.

from school orientation (more on this later!) . . . to alarms not going off & running after the bus . . . rainy days coupled w/ target and starbucks trips. it has already been an adventure and i've only been here for 3 days.

wow, and today//today was special . i finally met my first fellow blogger!!!

i seriously could not have been more blessed by the beautiful jillian @ novastyle

we have been friends for what seems like forever, and i knew from the first hug that we would be friends for life !

she is the biggest sweetheart and with her studying at parsons & me at FIT - i know we will have too many coffee ( i means study . . . ) dates and adventures around the CITY. . .

only 3 more days & i jet from EDMONTON --> LA --> NYC.

my head is spinning and i'm nervous beyond belief, but i know once i get there and "settle" in. . . some of that will wear off.

i also got news of a very exciting internship - will let you know once i get into the city + start. beyond cool.

to be honest - i have just been living in jeans this past week, and intermittently changing my tops to suit the occasion - dinners out = blazer ; movie nights in = mens t-shirt + mugs of tea.

i swear i am a boy on the inside when it comes to getting ready + regimes . i am all about the quickest// simplest way to get out the door.

today : doing everything you do before one moves ! to be honest it feels like i have been living out of suitcases for months and months... all i had when i moved from south africa is 3 huge beasts ... so moving to n y c shouldn't be too bad. pack up the basics and essentials and i think thats all i need.

oh boy- it's going to be a loooooong week.
