Hey Lisa, I must say it warms my heart just the simple sight of the little stack of 'real' books on the table! I just have like a vague anxiety of all these new electronic 'e-readers' replacing books. Of course it presents a conflict for anyone who encourages literacy, how can one object to increasing the access to great books for everyone?' well, but on the other hand, it seems like life more and more moves too fast, and then the real, romantic meaning of everything gets lost somehow. Anyways, just my feeling about it. Have a good day!

I guess this leaves me somewhere in the middle when it comes to the above statement. I certainly understand the angle that GRRM is coming from, but can't fully agree with it as I like many series that really do embrace magic and/or more fantastical elements. As long as a story has strong characters, I don't think it really matters how intense the magic and other supernatural aspects are.

However, things will get complicated as soon as the LOC number remains constant or, even worse, shrinks from meeting to meeting. Now, don't blame the people attending the meeting for getting nervous. They asked for a progress indicator and you gave them LOC. The good thing about the LOC metric is that you can calculate it easily. The bad thing is, it does not measure the system size. It measures the number of source code lines (whatever that is, but we'll ignore this detail for now). The count of source code lines is only an indicator of how "big" a software system is. For example, a skillful developer will reuse code as often as possible. This involves reworking existing code in a way that new code can be implemented in an efficient way. At the end of the day, maybe just a few, none or even LESSER lines of code have been "produced". Nonetheless, the system size has increased. Unfortunately, only the coolest of all project leads and managers in a status meeting will believe this ...

Yesterday the Maui Police released some information regarding the investigation through Laura's brother: "The police have located the owner of the cell phone that was the last number dialed from Laura's phone the night of her disappearance, and this individual has been brought in for questioning. The investigation continues in search of definitive forensic evidence. In addition, the FBI has been and continues to be involved and is providing assistance to the Maui Police department as required."

An article in today's New York Times Style section (written by Natasha Singer, the Suzy Menkes of the beauty world) spotlights the skincare industry's increasing dependence on lofty, often-ambiguous scientific jargon for marketing campaigns. A magazine writer myself, I'm guilty of pumping up a product's technology to boost its credibility (Hey, it's the job of a beauty journalist to investigate the claims and report what's actually going on inside all the pretty packaging!), but I do agree that for the average consumer, it can be daunting to read between the lines. What do you think? Do you care about the whys and the hows? Or would you rather just know what result you can expect (i.e. smoother skin, more hydration, even tone?)

The Fellowship's journey is coming to an end. Sauron's forces have attacked Gondor in his final siege against mankind, and the once great kingdom has never been in more desperate need of its king. Will Aragorn find the strength to meet his destiny? As Gandalf desperately tries to move the broken forces of Gondor to act, Theoden unites the warriors of Rohan to join in the fight. Even in their courage and passionate loyalty, the forces of men are no match against the swarming legions of enemies raining down on the kingdom. Despite their great losses, The Fellowship charges forward to keep Sauron distracted and give Frodo a chance to complete his quest. Traveling across treacherous enemy lands, Frodo must rely increasingly on Sam and Gollum as The Ring continues to test his allegiance and, ultimately, his humanity.

I hoped that he would love me,
And he has kissed my mouth,
But I am like a stricken bird

His kiss was not so wonderful
As all the dreams I had.

Before there was a bridge, there was a ford at the site where the bridge was later built. Wagons of finished leather and raw hides came from and went to the English Center tannery via White Pine, seeking to avoid traffic on the plank road along the Second Fork. Other traffic went to and from a large sawmill at White Pine and other mills to the west and north. Traffic from the north crossed Larrys Creek, and continued either east over Buckhorn Mountain to the Williamsport and Elmira Railroad at the village of Cogan Station on Lycoming Creek, or south down the road along Larrys Creek. This road led to a tannery on Larrys Creek about 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the ford, and to the plank road along the main branch of the creek. The plank road was a toll road and connected with another railroad, the West Branch Division of the Pennsylvania Canal, and the West Branch Susquehanna River at the creek's mouth

Mickey is the leader of The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, with help from Minny Mouse, Donald Duck, and other friendly friends of his.

I went to Amazon UK to see what readers had to say about it. But the title The Making of Love brought up a list of books about sex. Eventually I found that, at least for the UK market, the book has been re-titled The Secret of a Happy Family: Stay in Love As a Couple Through Thick and Thin and Even With Kids.
